52 Weeks of Felting - Week 39

You might have seen this on my facebook page last week, but this custom order is just too fun to not post on the blog!

The customer who ordered a pair of  brains works with patients with traumatic brain injuries.  I think she might be using them as little stress balls...too fun!

This was not easy.  All of these little lines are hard to do--and to make them symmetrical was nearly impossible, but I tried! I did learn a little bit about the anatomical structure of the brain while referring to photos and diagrams, so that's a fun perk!

Cider Days 2013

Whoa.  Last weekend was nuts.  I was a vendor at Cider Days, our local Fall Arts & Crafts festival.  It was clearly the largest crowd my little felt creations had ever seen.  And boy did this crowd show me some love.  I was blown away.  And so incredibly thankful! (Needless to say, I've been felting nonstop to slightly replenish my stock for the Mini Maker Faire in Tulsa this weekend.)

I had a lot of fun preparing cute things for my booth this time around.  I put in a little touch of Fall with a wooly Pumpkin Patch:

I bulked up my zombie hoard, too.

I also wanted to display one of my brooches on a scarf, and my friend came up with the idea to wrap the scarf around a vase of flowers (genius, really...AND it gave me an excuse to have some fresh flowers around for a little while).

It was a two-day festival.  Saturday was crazy busy.  Crazy.  Sunday was a bit more relaxed, but busy still.

I got to meet and chat with Katie of Skunkboy--I have to admit, I was a little excited when she stopped by.  I also met Summer of Culture Flock Clothing.  She's got some fun designs--check this one out!

The weather could not have been more beautiful.  It was a great weekend.  Hopefully you had a great weekend (and week) too!  What are your plans for the upcoming weekend?

52 Weeks of Felting - Week 38

I'm on a bird kick....

This one I finished on a bus on the way to Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo during our AZA conference the second week in September. And for the record, bumpy roads are not conducive to detail work with sharp, barbed needles.

52 Weeks of Felting - Week 37

It's time to play catch-up!

Now for Week 37, I decided to try another bird wool painting.  I wanted to do a Cardinal, because they're beautiful AND they are very popular here in Springfield and Missouri (ahem, baseball fans...).  As I searched for a reference picture, I kept seeing these wonderful winter cardinal scenes.  I thought it would be fun to be able to add some dimensional snow to the branches...

So this is what I came up with:

What birds do you see at your house in the winter?

Sorry.

I've been a terrible blogger lately. Sorry about that!  I promise to be better in the coming weeks as craft show craziness slows down a bit.  But hopefully, for now, you'll bear with me and forgive my absence...

Still friends?

The List - September

I'm like a broken record lately....on my blog and in my life. Because, seriously, all I've been doing is felting and running.  Really.  Oh, and watching a helluva lot of Netflix--but that coincides with felting.

Running update: So, I mentally broke down a couple weeks ago on a run.  I've been running around my neighborhood, slowly increasing my mileage.  But the upcoming race is a trail run, so I need to start training on trails. A local nonprofit recently opened some new trails south of here, so we decided to run there.  Folks, trail running is hard.  H a r d.  And I kept thinking that to myself, how hard it was and how I wasn't very good at it, and eventually I broke down. Cried even. Three times.  Pathetic, right?

Since then, I have been back to these trails twice.  I did not cry. In fact, the last time, I was mostly smiles.  We did six miles that day.  That's two thirds of the upcoming run, and THAT makes me feel good.  Two weeks ago, I was ready to drop out.  But now?  Now, I'm ready to get back out there and improve.

Felting update:  I posted last week about my upcoming shows, which include three this month.  If you know anything about needle felting, you know that it's time consuming, tedious work.  I work SO MUCH to prep and bulk up inventory for these shows.

Next week I'll be heading to Kansas City for work to attend the annual Association of Zoos and Aquariums national conference.  I'm excited.  I look forward to returning to work re-energized with new ideas and new plans!

52 Weeks of Felting - Week 35

I promise I finished this last week...BUT, you know, it was Labor Day weekend, and the laptop was put away and I just didn't feel like getting it out.  In fact, it's nearly been another week, and I'm just now opening it up.  Yup, I'm a bad blogger.

So, here's a slightly different pin cushion for week 35:

I like the challenge of blending wool colors, so I created a subtle blue to green ombre effect with the wool radiating from the shark fin.  Like it? I do.

It's available here if you want one. (25% off until September 14!)
