Tap Tap Tap....Is This Thing On?

My blogging schedule (or lack thereof) leaves a lot to be desired. At this point, a new published blog post is like a surprise for my readers--a special treat, right?!

Geez.

So, basically, I'm just popping in today to ask you to bear with me the rest of this week and probably next as I play catch-up.  This Saturday, I'll be at The Hip Handmade Market in Webb City from 11-6.  If you're local, you should come check out this new indie craft show!

If you don't already, you should follow me on Instagram (@begoodnatured.)  I'll be posting some new things, and if you need an animal fix, I'll have that for you too!

Thanks for being patient with me--see you on the other side, friends!

Our Backyard Chickens

Have you met my chickens?  We have two Rhode Island Reds, and one Barred Rock (aka Plymouth Rock).  Our chickens have a fenced-in coop area in the corner of our yard, but most days we let them out into the full backyard for a little while so they can scratch around for some bugs and seeds.

Chickens are hilarious, and it's really easy to take care of them.  I highly recommend them--plus, you get eggs!  This summer, we plan on building a better coop for them, and maybe even getting one or two more chickens. Our town only allows households to have up to six hens, but I'd love to have a little more space one day to have even more.

We also raise mealworms and give them to the chickens as treats.  They get really excited and run to us when we bring out "the box."  The chickens even will even jump to grab the worms!

Would you ever have backyard chickens?  Do you have chickens already?

Stitch Fix Number Four

You guys! It's already time for my fourth Stitch Fix! Want to see what I got this time??

Wynn Arrow Print Front Pocket Blouse:  I love the pattern and colors of this top.  It's sheer, has cute tab sleeves, and it a great cut for me.  I kept this one!

Berneen Printed Dolman Sleeve Top: I never would have tried dolman sleeve tops on my own--so thank you Stitch Fix for that.  This shirt is cute on me, and I love the colors and pattern. However, it's polyester, and I was instantly hot when I put it on.  I just can't see myself wearing this very often--this one goes back.

Ivy Tulip Print Tab Sleeve Blouse:  I was instantly in love with this top.  I mean, tulips! They're my favorite!  I love the colors, too.  Kept!

Rizzo Skinny Ponte Pants: These pants are like thick leggings.  I wanted them to work, because I could use a pair like these in my wardrobe.  I'm not a girl who wears leggings as pants.  I just won't do it.  But these I could do.  However, they were about three inches too long, and they bunched up at the knee.  They are also expensive for thick leggings.  And since they didn't fit perfectly, and I didn't love them, they were sent back.

Sedona Dot Print Shirtdress: I was excited to see polka dots, but I was not thrilled about the style of this dress.  Also, this chambray material is not my cup of tea.  The dress was really frumpy feeling, and a bit too long for my taste.  It went back too.

So many people have hopped on board with this service.  If you use my referral link, I'll get a credit to use toward a future fix--and you'll make me a super happy girl! Let me know if you try it!

(Check out my first, second, and third fixes, too!)

52 Weeks of Felt Paintings - Week 10

I loved making small felt paintings with single flowers last year, so I want to make more.  I also thought it would be fun if I created a painting of each different flower in my tattoo. So first up....a tulip!

I definitely have spring fever!  If I needle felt it, it will come---right? Maybe I'll do the iris next.

I'm a bull.

I'm a horoscope kind of girl.  They're just fun.  Maybe horoscopes are your thing too, or maybe they're not.  Though, I feel like they're written to be applicable to a host of situations, sometimes they seem "true" and sometimes they're way off.  I consider them to be good entertainment.  I'm loving these gals lately.

I do feel like my zodiac sign fits me pretty well.  I'm a Taurus.  A bull.  I'm stubborn and not a fan of change unless it's absolutely necessary. I'm also emotionally cool and detached, and typically don't express myself well in that way. To others, I may sometimes seem aloof and as if I don't care--bitchy even.  My Taurus response to this is "meh, oh well."

I'm loyal and dependable, practical and planning, and not too excitable (which can be positive or negative.) I worry about embarrassing myself, but often realize that those concerns are unnecessary or at least short-lived.

It's funny what we learn about ourselves during and after new and trying situations.  But, really, the most important thing is that we DO learn.  And as a Taurus, I value knowledge terribly. So I will strive and reach until it doesn't matter any more.

P.S.  It will always matter.

St. Patty's Day Brooch DIY

If you need to avoid pinches this St. Patrick's Day, this is an easy needle felting diy for you!

You'll need a few supplies: felting foam and needle, wool, sheet felt, scissors, pin back, glue gun, embroidery floss and needle for embellishments.

I freehand needle felted  a shamrock shape onto my sheet felt.  You can always draw yours first with some chalk if you need to.

It might be a bit fuzzy on the back.  That's okay--we'll trim and cover it up later.

Decide what shape you want your brooch to be.  I wanted a scalloped look, so I started with a circle and then cut out my design.

I then added a bit of embroidery detail to the felt.

My brooch needed a little something more, so I felted some dots into the edge. At this point I trimmed the fuzz on the back.

My brooch needed a little something more, so I added some felted dots to the edge. I trimmed the fuzz on the back at this point.

I cut another piece of felt to glue to the backside, then I glued the pin back onto the brooch.  Be mindful of the direction of your pin back as you attach it.

All done!

Here's a few other ideas for you. The possibilities are endless.  Each of these brooches took me twenty minutes tops--easy peasy!!

Let me know if you make something like this! I'd love to see it!

52 Weeks of Felt Paintings - Week 9

It's a snowy day here in the Midwest, so it's fitting for me to share this guy with you today!

No wet felting this week--this owl is all needle felted.  Like him?
